Volunteer with us at BISC

We’re here because of you

Volunteers are an integral part of every aspect of BISC’s work - without them we wouldn’t be able to operate!

Right now, we’re looking for people who can help us with our events on Wednesdays and Fridays. Volunteering regularly with us gives you the chance to become part of a team, getting to know both international students and other volunteers. We’re also looking for people who can be part of our Local Link scheme. This is a chance to help an international student feel welcomed into the city by a local, perhaps meeting you for coffee in your favourite café or visiting your house for a meal.

Volunteer regularly

Having people we can rely on means that BISC are able to run regular events for students over the academic year. Coming in weekly or fortnightly also means you get to know our team and can make friends with other regular volunteers. Our biggest need is usually our Wednesday lunch afternoon. Volunteering at BISC could look like:

  • Wednesdays 10-1pm or 1-3.30pm: International Student Lunch

  • Tuesdays 12-2pm: Food preparation / laundry

  • Fridays 10-12: Baking

  • Fridays 4.30-8.30pm: Socials

There’s a wide variety of skills we need both to keep the centre looking great and to run events so do get in touch to find out more.

One-off volunteering

If you don’t have the time to help us regularly, that’s okay - there are other opportunities to help. When we have bigger termly events such as the Christmas Party or Chinese New Year, we need a bit more help. This is when we contact our wider pool of volunteers for an extra hand. If you’re interested in helping us with these bigger events, then sign up to our ‘one-off volunteering’ email list.

We won’t contact you a lot - probably just once a term.

Become a Local Link host

International students spend most, if not all, their time with other students. Local Link provides them with an opportunity to get to know locals and learn about British culture. By meeting up with long-term residents of Bristol, they get to practise their English, see new areas of the city and perhaps even try some British food.
