BISC DIY Walk 2020
In and Out of the City Walls

START From BISC outside the front gate on Woodlands Road and walk down the hill,
at the end of the road, turn left into Park Row – cross the road at the signalled crossing.
Continue on Park Lane, then fork right onto Lower Park Row, at end of this road, cross over to Christmas Steps.
Go down the steps towards the city centre.
At the bottom, turn left and walk to the pedestrian crossing over the main road (Colston Avenue).
Cross the road and walk along Christmas Street towards Quay Street/Nelson Street.
At Quay Street, the old city wall and north gate are on the opposite side.
Cross over the road and walk through North Gate. Stop here and press play for (Point 1)
From North Gate, walk up Broad Street, turn at the first left into John Street, walk along and into St John’s Steep, then onto Nelson Street.
Continue walking through to Broadmead until on the left side just after M&S, stop at The New Room, John Wesley’s meeting) place. Stop here and press play for (Point 2)
From the New Room, turn left and then right into Merchant Street through the shopping area. Walk to the end where you meet Newgate/Broad Weir. Cross over road. Walk up the steps on the opposite side into Castle Park.
At the top of the slope, turn right towards the ruined St Peter's Church Stop here and press play for (Point 3)
From the church, walk down the path towards the harbour. Look across the harbour to see the Lead Shot Tower on the other side of the harbour. Stop here and press play for (Point 4)
Walk on to Bristol Bridge, this is the first bridge over Avon, the site of first settlement, Bricgstowe.
Originally a wooden bridge but rebuilt in C13th as a 4 arched bridge. Replaced by the current bridge in 1768.
At the bridge cross over High Street to St Nicholas Street. Walk along on the right side and turn right up the side of St Nicholas Market past the arcade to Corn Street, outside the old Corn Exchange, now St Nicholas Market. Stop here and press play for (Point 5)

Stop at the trail plaque named after John Cabot, and plaque to Bristol Basin Stop here and press play for (Point 6)
